Greetings, OrcaCon friends!

We know many of you have been waiting for updates about OrcaCon 2027, and we appreciate your patience. After 10 successful years of hosting the convention, we have some important updates to share about the future of OrcaCon.

OrcaCon 2027 Update

Our board has made the decision to take a break from hosting OrcaCon in 2027. Our plan is to pause for one year and return in 2028.

This decision was not made lightly. Many of our volunteer board and staff members have faced significant personal challenges over the past year, including serious health issues, family losses, relocations, and job changes. Like many volunteer-run organizations, our team balances OrcaCon alongside full-time careers, and burnout has become a real concern.

Taking this time allows our team the space to rest, recover, and return with renewed energy.

Looking Ahead to 2028

During this break, we’ll be focusing on strengthening the organization for the future. This includes:

    • –Supporting transitions as some board members step down and new members step into leadership roles
    • –Training and onboarding new staff
    • –Improving our internal documentation to make planning more sustainable long-term
    •

What’s Changing

As we plan for OrcaCon’s return, we’re also exploring some updates to the convention itself.

Our goal is to focus on what we do best while making improvements to the overall experience. We expect OrcaCon to remain a 3-day gaming weekend, while we:

    • –Explore new locations and potential date options
    • –Look for venues that offer more flexibility (including food options)
    • –Aim to improve logistics like parking and accessibility
    •

Staying Connected in 2027

Even though we’re taking a year off from the convention, OrcaCon won’t disappear.

We plan to stay active in the community by:

    • –Hosting OrcaCon tables at local conventions and events
    • –Partnering with libraries and local charities for game days and community activities
    •

What the Board Is Doing Now

Right now, our focus is on rest, transition, and preparation. Outgoing board members are helping train their replacements, and we’re building stronger systems to support future growth.

Want to Get Involved?

We’ll be opening applications for new volunteer staff once we’ve finalized internal role transitions.

Opportunities will include:

    • –Year-round positions
    • –Pre-event planning roles
    • –On-site convention roles
